“Link in bio” is a popular phrase used in posts on social networks such as Instagram, and for good reason. Having a page of key links is a quick and convenient way to direct people to your website, blog, affiliate links, and more.
In this post, we look at some of the different ways you can create a “link in bio” (or LinkTree style) page from your own WordPress website – and all the reasons why it’s a better option to do that compared to using an external service.

Tip: If you’re a web designer or a virtual assistant, this is also a great add-on option for your services as there are so many worthwhile benefits to your clients having their own “link in bio” page and most WordPress themes don’t include a template or option for them by default.
Why create your own LinkTree style page?
The main advantages of hosting your own page of easy-access links include:
No extra costs – LinkTree and other similar services charge for things like removing their logo, adding analytics, certain design elements, and many more features that are no extra cost to you on your own website (many of which you probably already have in place already!)
The traffic is all yours – You’re sending people directly to a page on your website rather than an interim page you have little control over. This also means that you can easily direct people to other parts of your website, and you aren’t potentially displaying third party links or ads that are of no benefit to you and can distract your potential visitors away from your content.
Unlimited design and styling capabilities – You have full control over the page styling and content, including images, backgrounds, embeds, fonts, buttons, tables, page sections etc. Plus you don’t need to buy any extra licenses for things like web fonts that only allow use on one website, because it’s still part of your website.
This also allows you to highlight specific brands in custom ways, and even create bespoke sections for ads or sponsored links on your page to offer companies more when they collaborate with you. For example, as well as offering a Story post, you could offer a featured “link in bio” link, image and description for a set amount of time.
No extra cost for analytics data – In addition to seeing which links (and link text) are the most popular, and which are never clicked, it’s also integrated into the rest of your website. So you can see someone’s whole journey from start to finish very easily, and use that data to make decisions. For example, you may find that someone clicking through from Instagram spends more time on your website and is more likely to view xyz posts or categories, while people from TikTok spend less time and are more likely to view abc posts or categories.
Make changes and improvements you need on the fly – You have full control over things like wording affiliate link disclosures, cookie pop ups, and anything else that you may want to cover legally and morally. (See Blogging 101: Legal and our post on GDPR for more tips, or if you’re a customer raise a ticket if you have questions).
Improved (custom) organization – You can add any extra content you want, for example describing links, adding captions, or even creating categories or sets of related links. Things that signpost people help them have a better user experience so they’re not looking for ages or getting lost/confused – or worse, give up.
You have full control of the URL – That means you can have yoursite.com/links or /instagram or /start-here or even /linktree or whatever you like without any extra cost, since you already have your domain name. Alternatively, could buy a shorter domain name and use that as your redirect if you want to; see How To Set Up A Custom URL Shortener.
It’s more memorable – Instead of thinking about it as a “LinkTree”, and not being able to remember the address, it’s directly tied to your brand (even more useful if you have multiple blogs, websites or companies associated with you).
Everything you need is already conveniently available to you – No need to have and think about yet another account or be paying for something you forget about.
You can create as many links pages as you like at no extra cost – This is great if:
– You want to swap them out for specific campaigns, launches, brand promos or similar.
– You have multiple social media accounts and want something a bit different for each one (e.g. if a brand has paid to promote on TikTok but not Instagram, or you want to have social-specific deals or codes for tracking. For example, you could use a code like TIKTOKJEN for your TikTok and INSTAJEN for your Instagram, and track affiliate conversions separately in your Lyrical Host affiliate account to see where people are coming from and what’s more successful.
– You want a seasonal page that you can swap in/out easily (for example for Black Friday or Christmas).
No logos No LinkTree or other third party service logos on your page to distract your visitors or make your page look less professional.
No extra transaction fees if you’re selling – You keep more money in your pocket.
No surprises – You’re not bound by changes in service terms or prices that you don’t agree with. As it’s a closed platform, you can’t just migrate easily elsewhere if you want to switch hosts.
Styling is always on brand – Since it’s already a page of your website, you can have it automatically change with your website theme so you don’t need to restyle it every time. Just raise a support ticket if you need help or advice with this.
Just as easy to update from your phone – Just like your website, you can log in to your usual website dashboard from your smartphone or tablet to update the page quickly and easily if needed.
More versatile – Can be used as anything from a portfolio page to a summary of who you are to a resume. Or divide your page into different sections and have any type of content you like. Add a countdown timer if you want to highlight limited time deals, workshops or events.
You can make it more accessibility friendly – As you have full control over the styling and layout, you can make it easier for people using screen readers or who have other additional needs to use. For example, you could group links or have skip links to specific sections.
More unique and/or professional looking – You can have your page match your style and brand instead of looking like all the others.
How to create your own LinkTree style “link in bio” page on your WordPress website
There are two main ways you can create your link in bio page; using a plugin, or using your theme.
Two free plugins you can use for this are Social Lite and SeedProd. Search for them from your WordPress Dashboard by going to Plugins > Add New and using the search bar to install them. Social Lite is specifically designed for creating a links page, while SeedProd’s landing page feature lets you create a page of links. There’s also a paid option that gives you more blocks and options to work with.
If you prefer not to install another plugin, there are a bunch of different tutorials depending on what WordPress theme or builder you’re using. If you’re using a paid theme, it’s worth checking your theme docs or asking the developer if they already have a template for it, as you may already have one as part of your theme (or they may have an even easier workaround for you).
You can often also create your own by hiding all the standard elements on your page (such as your sidebar) and adding a list of buttons, which you then link to different places. We explain how to do this for common page builders below.
(You can also create a more dynamic image grid that mirrors your Instagram feed, allowing followers to simply click on a post to go straight to the content. The main thing to remember is that most people will be looking at this page via a mobile device, so double check the layout works well on mobile).
So here’s how to create your LinkTree style page using popular page builders.
Elementor
With Elementor, you can create a dynamic landing page that looks similar to your Instagram feed. Your followers will then be able to simply tap on a post to be taken directly to the content. You will need Elementor Pro, as you will require the Posts widget. This works by having all the posts you want to include being added to a unique category – for ease call this Linkinbio.
1. Create a new page and click the Edit with Elementor button.
2. Click the settings gear icon on the bottom left and in the Page Layout drop down, choose Elementor Canvas.
3. Create a header image with your logo. You can set this to link to your homepage.
4. Then create a featured post widget and in the Query options, set the Include By to “Term” and Term setting equal to ”Linkinbio” (or whatever you have called your blog post category)
Whenever you add a new post to this category, it will appear in the grid!
For detailed instructions, see this tutorial.
Kadence
With Kadence, you can create a button style link in bio page that matches your branding. It uses the Kadence Blocks Plugin.
1. Create a new page, choose row layout and add an Advanced Button Block.
2. Select fonts, styles and colours that reflect your main website and branding (you can choose to remove the main site header and add a new block to add your logo and branding too).
3. If you have Kadence Pro, you can use the Conditional Headers option to have a specific header for your link in bio page.
For detailed instructions, check out this tutorial.
Divi
You can create a beautiful link in bio page using Divi Blurb Modules.
1. Create a blank template (found on the right hand side of the page settings under Page Attributes).
2. Create a new, simplified header.
3. To create the links, add a Blurb Module which will have an image and short text description.
For more detailed instructions and a free template see this tutorial.
GeneratePress
The GeneratePress free theme can create a simple link in bio, and GeneratePress Premium makes it easy to remove distracting headers, menus and search bars.
1. If you’re running GeneratePress Premium, enable the Disable Elements feature. This brings up a selection of checkboxes in Page Layout to remove various elements.
2. Create a new page and add a new Container Block.
3. Add a new Buttons Block and in the block options set to Stack Vertically and Fill Horizontal Space.
4. Add your buttons, changing the colours, text and links.
More detailed instructions can be found in this tutorial.
If you don’t use any of the above, head to google for a quick search on how to create a landing page or link in bio page in [the name of your theme or page builder], or raise a ticket with our support team.
Adding analytics tracking to your “link in bio” links
Once you have your page and links set up, you’ll want to start tracking some data on how people are using them, especially when it comes to the number of clicks.
You may want this information:
- For brands who ask for that info for paid campaigns.
- To see which links are actually being clicked (and removing ones that aren’t).
- To test different formatting styles to see if certain colors or styling options encourage more clicks.
- For testing different link text to see which wording performs the best.
- To check against data that affiliate programs give you (for example checking you both have similar numbers of clicks for a given link).
If you’re already using something like Pretty Links, Thirsty Affiliates, Bitly or similar for link tracking, you could just use that for your tracking.
If you want to make the information available directly in your Google Analytics, you can use this free tool from Google (scroll to the bottom of the page to see what to enter in each field).
Once you’ve generated your URL, use that in your link buttons and your link tracking is all set!
If you’re a Lyrical Host customer and need some help with this, just raise a ticket from your account.
And you’re all set! Enjoy your new links page.
